To strengthen fiscal transparency and accountability at the local level, the UK International Development funded Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE), supported the Kaduna State Government to develop a Harmonised Chart of Accounts and Budget Guidelines for all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The intervention aimed to streamline financial reporting processes across the state, ensuring that local budgets and expenditures are recorded and tracked in a consistent, transparent manner. As part of the process, PACE built the capacity of Local Government budget and finance staff to use the updated Chart of Accounts effectively.
To put these skills into action, all 23 LGAs were supported to prepare and publish their full-year 2024 Local Government Budget Performance Reports. These reports offer a clear picture of how public funds were allocated and spent, reinforcing a culture of openness and fiscal discipline.
By embedding standardised reporting tools and practices at the local level, the programme is helping Kaduna State entrench a stronger system of accountability, enabling both oversight bodies and citizens to better monitor how resources are managed, and services are delivered.
