Championing Inclusive Local Governance

PACE recently led the coordination of a high-level retreat for Kaduna State’s newly elected local government chairpersons, positioning itself as the key driver in fostering collaboration across FCDO programmes and other development partners. The retreat served as a strategic platform to explore how local governments can leverage financial autonomy to drive agricultural transformation and strengthen governance at the grassroots level. Through PACE’s facilitation, the event brought together critical stakeholders, including state and non-state actors, key officials, and major development programmes supported by FCDO (Propcom+, PLANE, and Lafiya), alongside other NGOs (Save the Children, Clinton Health and Sight Savers) to promote integrated planning and collective action. Discussions focused on aligning local development plans with state priorities, advancing climate action and food security through climate-smart agriculture, enhancing veterinary services, and boosting grassroots revenue mobilisation. The retreat marked a significant step towards fostering cohesive, locally led development efforts in Kaduna State.
